Contributing

We love contributions from the community, whether it's improving our open source code or sharing a new activity for everyone to enjoy on their Boppo.

Open Source Contributions

Boppo's open source repositories are available on GitHub. We welcome bug reports, fixes, documentation improvements, and feature additions.

General Guidelines

  • Open an issue first for non-trivial changes. This lets us discuss the approach before you invest significant time writing code.
  • Keep pull requests focused. One logical change per PR makes review faster and reduces the chance of rejection.
  • Follow the existing code style. Match the patterns and conventions already present in the codebase.
  • Write clear commit messages that describe what changed and why.
  • Test your changes before submitting. If the project has a test suite, make sure it passes.

What We May Not Accept

We do not accept all contributions, and a rejection is not a reflection on the quality of your work. Common reasons include:

  • The change conflicts with our product direction or planned roadmap.
  • The feature is too niche or increases maintenance burden beyond its value.
  • The implementation approach doesn't fit the architecture we're working toward.
  • The change duplicates something already in progress internally.
  • The PR scope is too large to review safely.

If your contribution is declined, we'll do our best to explain why and, where possible, suggest alternatives.

Contributing an Activity

If you've built an activity you'd like to share with the Boppo community, we'd love to see it. Accepted activities may be included in future releases and made available to all Boppo users. We would love to give you attribution in the activity description in the phone app and on the open source repo if desired.

How to Submit

Please email [email protected] with your activity.

  • Include a brief description of what the activity does and who it's intended for.
  • Provide a link or include the source code along with any assets (sounds, etc.) required to build it.
  • Please review the Activity Guidelines and make sure your activity meets those standards.

We are happy to pay for our voice actors to record the voice audio of the activity once its been accepted or happy to use your voice if you prefer.

What We May Not Accept

We review every activity submission carefully, but we cannot include everything. We may decline an activity for reasons such as:

  • It doesn't meet our quality standards.
  • It is too similiar to an existing activity.
  • It is not original work or doesn't have clear licensing terms.
  • It isn't appropriate for our audience.
  • Is too commercial in nature.
  • We simply don't have capacity to maintain it long-term.

A declined submission doesn't mean your activity isn't good. Declined activities can still be shared privately as part of a community project.
