Activity Guidelines
Reactivity
- Reward player interaction with reactions even if the interaction was incorrect.
- In code avoid sleeping without listening for button presses. Do not make the player wait for you.
Feedback
- Try to always have at least one light showing when an activity is active (perhaps dim) so it is obvious the device is on and waiting for interaction instead of being off.
Audio
-
Do not allow for an unbounded number of sounds to be played simulataneously. The tablet can only play about 10 QOA sounds from SD card simulataneously and even playing from RAM hits a limit quickly. If a sound is played for every button press make sure previous presses are cancelled.
-
Sound effect audio clips played in response to button presses should have virtually no deadspace at the start. If the clip will be followed by other clips, dead space for appropriate spacing should be at the end of the first clip.
Lights
- Black and other dark colors are not representable on the Boppo buttons since black turns off the lights and the buttons are naturally grey. Fully saturated colors such as red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, and yellow look the best.
- Consider fading lights instead of abrupt changes even if only over a short duration especially if done frequently.
